Boy That Was a Long Retreat

I know that this is what you must be thinking.  Where did she go?  What a long retreat!  So here's my story.  I did go to Tahoe to the most wonderful retreat.  We stayed at Zephyr Point, right on the beautiful Lake!  Sunrise and sunsets were awesome!  Had a fantastic time with old friends and made a couple new friends.  I did spend a good deal of time sewing, chatting, visiting a quilt store, you know the usual retreat stuff!

Then it happened, I decided to skip behind a friend, on our way to dinner on the last night, (so thankful it wasn't the first night) when shoe caught on the carpet, and down I went.  Now for the part that tells you where I've been.  I broke my right arm, yes I'm right handed!  Broke it in two places.  The humerous,  and the shoulder ball sitting in it's sweet little socket.  Completely separated the arm from shoulder socket.  Never felt such pain in my life, though I have broken a few other bones!!!   Let's not go there!!  Here I am five weeks later.  No surgery and breaks are healing.  I'm in Physical Therapy and just beginning to do a little sewing.  Full recovery is five months out, or so they tell me.  Ugh!!

I decided I needed to show you a couple of the projects I did work on, including the Bouillabaise.  It took most of the time, but I really did get a lot done!  Can't wait to go back again next year!  Sew..keep checking back and I'll try to keep you up on what I'm able to work on at this point.

Also, just a note.  Start looking for Rosemary Youngs new book.  It is out! " The Quilt Block Bible".  As Rosemary describes it, "It is a collection of 202 classic block patterns with historical anecdotes".  Sounds like something we could all use in our libraries.

What can I say?

OMG!  It has been so long since I've posted!  What can I say?  I'm so sorry.  I really want to thank  those of you who are still checking in, and waiting for me to get on it.  I've been doing some quilting, some traveling, and some just I don't know what!  LOL :-)

I'm preparing for an upcoming trip with a group of quilty friends!  We will all head up to Tahoe for a five day retreat. I'm really excited!  Nothing but quilting and friends.  What more could we ask for?  I'll have plenty to show and tell you after, and maybe during that trip!

Some of you may remember that I gave my Bouillabaisse quilt to a friend who was very ill with cancer.  I missed that quilt, and though I've never made a quilt twice......I'm making another one for myself!  I just love playing with the batiks and putting colors together.  Has to be one of my favorite parts of quilting! The dark strips on the left will be the dark that borders some of the blocks. You can see how it all goes together in the pattern photo. It will be just one of several UFO's I take on our retreat.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Fellow Quilters!  It certainly is time for me to post my status here.  I have really got the quilting mojo back!  I've been finishing up a few projects, and cutting a few others, to get a good start to a new quilting year.

I know I committed to not buying any fabric or projects for the year, but I have to admit I caved!  I decided to join some of you in the mystery quilt based on the Downton Abbey, PBS show.  No worries!  I'm back on track!  I've cleaned out the quilt closet, drawers of patterns, kits, and other quilty things, and I'm ready to begin a New Year finishing some of these projects I have been sorting through.  I definitely have enough to keep me going this year and probably the next!! LOL :-)

Here's a couple of pics of the latest finished projects.  The blue and purple you've seen in progress, but as of mid December it is done!  Yeah!  The other is the BOM, Susan's Folly that I've been showing to you as the blocks have been made.  Finished just the other day.  I guess that counts for a 2014 finished project, not 2013.  I like the finished quilt, though again, there was a lot piecing, even in the border!  I'm off to do some more cutting.
